I absolutely adore street art. Whenever we visit a city, I keep my eyes peeled for vibrant murals decorating old buildings. They give such a unique character to every area and are an amazing way to bring life to otherwise drab streets. We’ve been fortunate to experience a lot of amazing street art this past year all over the U.S., including the Atlanta Beltline, the NEON District, Detroit, and today’s focus, the ViBe Creative District.
The ViBe Creative District turns several blocks of shops into a wildly varied art display just behind the popular boardwalk area of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

While wall murals are trendy in many cities (and my personal favorite), Virginia Beach takes their street art even further with painted sidewalks, crosswalks, fences, and sculptures!
My head was constantly swiveling as we walked through the district because there was no telling where the next mural would pop up! We also discovered many cool murals and buildings in this area that weren’t even on the tour map, so I’m glad we were willing to explore and deviate from the path.

This area is also full of awesome local businesses that you wouldn’t get to experience if you stuck to the main boardwalk! You’ll find coffee shops (Three Ships Coffee has a blend that tastes like Cherry Cola), art studios, restaurants, jewelry stores, surf shops, and more, most of which are adorned with unique and eye-catching murals.

It’s such a fantastic place to visit, and I’m so excited to share it with you today!
All About the ViBe Creative District

Where is the ViBe District? This awesome area is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and covers several blocks west of Pacific Avenue and North of 16th Street.
Is there a map? Yup! You can download this brochure from their website or use this handy interactive map.
How long does it take to tour the ViBe Creative district? That honestly depends on how much you want to do along the way. If you want to stop in all the shops and take your time enjoying the fresh ocean air, you could easily spend an entire day here! However, if your main focus is checking out the cool art, you can do it in about 2 to 2.5 hours.
What kind of art is there? You’ll see all kinds of art styles and topics in the ViBe District! There is no one set style, so you’re sure to see many that you enjoy! Ocean themes are common, thanks to it’s proximity to the oceanfront, but there are also flowers, abstracts, dogs, and more!

Does it cost anything? Nope! It is completely free!
Where should I park? We parked at the MOCA Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art because the 1st display is on the building. However, you can also park at the Virginia Beach Visitor Information Center.
How many stops are on the tour? There are 51 public artworks scattered around the area! Some of them are as small as a sidewalk square, while others span entire buildings!
Tips for Touring the ViBe Creative District

- Wear comfortable shoes! You’ll be doing lots of walking, so make sure you’re prepared.
- Bring your camera. These murals are definitely Insta-worthy, so be sure to snap a few shots to remember your trip.
- Don’t forget water. Especially if you visit during the summer, you’ll want to bring water to stay hydrated. Alternatively, you can visit one of the local coffee shops or restaurants for a good meal and water before continuing your journey.
- Follow the map…but feel free to wander. If you want to see all 52 art displays, you’ll want to follow the map. It makes it easy by labeling all the artwork in a big loop for you. However, we found a lot of cool stuff that wasn’t on the map, so don’t be afraid to go down an extra street if something catches your eye.
- Leave plenty of daylight. While the Virginia Beach sunsets are phenomenal, you’ll be disappointed if you run out of time to see everything because it gets dark.
My Favorite Art Works
I’m not going to share all 51 murals and sculptures with you because that would spoil the fun. However, I can’t help but point out a few of my favorites because they made me smile! All the murals listed on the tour map will have their corresponding number in the caption so you can find them on your own.

I’m looking forward to revisiting this district when we have more time to pop into some of these enticing shops and restaurants! We usually stick to the boardwalk, but now that I know what’s waiting just a few streets back, I’ll be sure to explore more in the future.
