A Full Review of the HeartRock Homestead Airbnb

In November, we had the privilege of staying at the HeartRock Homestead Airbnb in Schuyler, Virginia. We were looking for the perfect place to get away for a few days, and this adorable guest house didn’t disappoint. I normally don’t do Airbnb reviews, but we had such a great experience that I just had to share!

If you’re looking for a quiet retreat to disconnect for a few days or are considering the HeartRock Homestead specifically, this post is for you!

If you prefer a city stay, this isn’t for you. But if you’re the kind of person who enjoys quiet in the mountains, you’ll love this little hideaway.

Located in Schuyler, VA, HeartRock Homestead is nestled next to the Shenandoah Mountains. The surrounding area features farms, vineyards, and breathtaking mountain views. You’ll have to drive about 15 minutes to get to the nearest restaurant, but the journey is worth it, thanks to the scenery.

HeartRock Guesthouse

HeartRock Homestead offers a couple of stay options, including the main house and guesthouse. We chose to stay in the guesthouse, which was perfect for the two of us and our pup. However, it’s set up to hold a small family with kids easily.

What initially drew me to the listing was the darling design of the interior. Kim has done an incredible job furnishing the small space with an innovative kitchen setup, comfy furniture, and gorgeous decor. But the real eye-catcher for us was the hand-made loft railing and banister that her husband, Greg, put together. It made the space so unique and fun!

Inside the Guesthouse

The guesthouse is one large room with a bathroom, and it’s cozy in the best way possible. We actually canceled some of our plans so that we could stay in and enjoy the space for longer.

The main living area features a couch and a big chair next to a set of sliding patio doors. A nice TV is mounted above the chair, and we spent plenty of time relaxing on the couch with Netflix.

Behind the living area, the sleeping area is divided into two by the loft. The bottom half has a super comfy king-sized bed piled high with pillows and fluffy blankets. Above, a double bed in the loft area offers the perfect little treehouse for kids to sleep. You access it via a little curving staircase, and there’s even a chair for kids to curl up with a book or iPad.

The kitchen is small, but we loved the little touches and rustic vibes. A small wooden counter lines the wall, creating a dining section with bar stools. The kitchen has a mini-fridge, microwave, toaster oven, a hot plate, water kettle, and coffee maker. Additionally, there’s a big antique pie chest under the loft that’s stocked with all the kitchen utensils you could want!

The bathroom is bright and clean, with lots of cool touches, like a wire basket for toilet paper and a stained-glass suncatcher in the window. My only complaint here was the lack of counter space and the open window facing the yard. But the design and cleanliness were both excellent!

Outside the Guesthouse

Quiet sitting area next to firepit

As much as we loved the guesthouse interior, we spent quite a bit of time enjoying the outdoor amenities as well. It didn’t even matter that it was 40 degrees outside!

The exterior of the guesthouse is fully equipped for enjoying the area. Multiple seating spaces and tables offer cozy spots to chat and enjoy your morning coffee (or nighttime hot chocolate). Under the awning, you’ll also find a picnic table and an adorable bed swing (my favorite spot).

Beyond the porch, the HeartRock Homestead is a shared space that guests are free to explore. Down in the gardens, you can enjoy the two “poor man’s hot tubs.” Just fill them up with hot water and enjoy the view, including a small herd of goats to your left!

If you like roasting marshmallows or sitting around a campfire, you’ll also enjoy the fire pit and fully-stocked woodpile. Or, just chill in the wicker seats or hammock around the patio.

Finally, the grounds have a vegetable garden, some woods, a pond, and a tree swing for guests to enjoy.

I loved this cute tree swing, too!

HeartRock Homestead Amenities

We were very pleased with the standard and extra amenities at the HeartRock Homestead.

One of the first things we noticed on arrival was an adorable basket prepared for a s’mores night! Unfortunately, we didn’t get to try it out, but we loved the gesture and thoughtfulness.

Other things that stuck out to us were the woodfire stove (optional for heating), extra kitchen supplies, lots of blankets, and cables to connect our phones/iPad to the TV.

There is wifi, but it is metered, so you’ll need to download any movies/shows in advance, but it works great for normal use.

I was also very pleased with the heating in the guesthouse and the water temp and pressure.

Parking is extremely convenient, as you can pull up right next to the front door, and the keyless entry makes it easy to get in and out without worrying about keys.

The Animals

The HeartRock Homestead is very pet-friendly, and our pup, Atlas, had a blast while we were there! Pets can stay for a small fee, as long as they remain leashed in the yard and you clean up after them.

The owners have a few of their own animals on site, including Bilbo, the kitty, Aslan, the sheepdog, and a small herd of goats.

If you have a dog that likes the outdoors, he’ll have a blast exploring the grounds and meeting the animals.

When you’re in desperate need of a place to get away from everything, I highly recommend this Airbnb. We will definitely be back next time we need to “recharge” from our busy schedules!
