Best Places for Breakfast & Coffee in Georgetown, DC

Call Your Mother

Address: 3428 O St NW, Washington, DC 20007

The fun exterior of Call Your Mother in Georgetown, DC

It’s been a while since I had a bagel breakfast sandwich, but my stop at Call Your Mother has had me craving them recently.

Inside this flagrantly pink and teal building, you’ll find a bustling shop that identifies itself as “Jew-ish Deli.” They offer a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items, from unique bagel sandwiches to doughnuts, Schmearz, lunch sandwiches, and delicious coffee.

It’s clearly a local favorite, based on the non-stop bustle of eager patrons crowding inside, as well as the fact that there are 7 locations in the D.C. area.

After my own breakfast there, I can clearly see why. The bagels are fantastic–and huge!–and my latte was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Mountain View, which comes with egg, latke, cheese, and avocado. Perfection! And despite a line that had about 20 people in it when we arrived, we hardly waited longer than I would have for a Starbucks drink.

Don’t think about the calories lol

The only downside to grabbing breakfast here is the lack of seating. Due to the popularity of the spot, all orders are to-go, which we didn’t know when we arrived. So here’s a tip for you: Get your food, then take it south on 35th St. NW toward the riverfront. Right before you reach the canal, you’ll find the Francis Scott Key Memorial Park, which has beautiful gardens, great views, and plenty of benches. Enjoy your breakfast there before continuing on with your day!

Cafe Georgetown

Address: 3141 N St NW, Washington, DC 20007

Cafe Georgetown is on the right half of this building

Am I a sucker for Instagrammable food? Yes, I am. But I have 0 regrets about stopping by Cafe Georgetown for one of their gorgeous artisanal lattes!

You’ll find Cafe Georgetown on the first floor of a gorgeous renovated home. It sits right off of Wisconsin Street, making it the perfect stop before hitting up the local shops.

Inside, the cafe has a luxe vibe, with marble tabletops, gold accents, and velvety blue paint. There’s even a small patio bar with lots of sunlight and additional seating.

They offer a large selection of hot and cold drinks, plus baked goods and pastries. But what they’re most popular for is their highly Instagrammable seasonal drinks.

This spring, they had two delicious options on the menu: a cherry blossom latte and a lavender latte. Besides the delicious flavor infusions, what sets these drinks apart is the art! Each drink came with an intricate design on top of the foam and a decorative arch of real flower petals.

Despite the high price ($7.50 per latte), this was definitely one of the top 3 coffee drinks I’ve ever had. And the experience more than made up for the cost.

Best Places for Lunch & Dinner in Georgetown, DC

Kafe Leopold

Address: 3315 Cady’s Alley, NW Between 33rd & 34th off of M St on the canal side, Cady’s Alley NW, Washington, DC 20007

Cady’s Alley

While you’re exploring Georgetown, I highly recommend a trip through Cady’s Alley, the area’s design district. One of the highlights of Cady’s Alley is Kafe Leopold, a trendy restaurant serving Austrian fare. Yum!

It has both indoor and outdoor seating, complete with modern decor inside and a fountain-accented courtyard.

The menu was different from anything I’ve had before, and they had a large selection of dishes to choose from. They also have a case where you can choose fresh pastries and baked goods for a sweet treat!

I’m glad to say I can highly recommend everything we tried:

  • Butternut Squash Burrata Salad
  • Hibiscus-Gorgonzola Crostini
  • Seasonal Ravioli
  • Leopold’s Banana Split
  • Papillote

Be sure to finish your dinner with one of their delicious and beautiful desserts!

George’s King of Falafel and Cheese Steaks

Address: 1205 28th St NW, Washington, DC 20007

After reading the rave reviews of George’s on Google, we had to give it a try. It’s located on a side street off of M Street NW in a cute white brick building with blue shutters. There are a couple of small bistro tables outside where you can sit and people-watch while you enjoy your food, and I highly recommend doing so at night when the town is lit up.

George’s interior has some fun vibes as well, with industrial-style decor and a wall that’s covered in signed bills from people that have visited.

For food, the restaurant serves up a fantastic selection of shawarma, falafel, sandwiches, and other Mediterranean food, and it all comes in large portions. I tried the lamb gyro plate, which was so flavorful and fresh, and topped it off with half of an enormous piece of baklava!

We managed to catch it at a calm moment, but by the time we’d ordered, the line was out the door! However, we did not have to wait long at all for our food as they kept the line moving, and we were enjoying our food in no time.

Best Places for Dessert in Georgetown, DC

Sprinkles

Address: 3015 M St NW, Washington, DC 20007

There’s a good chance you’ve heard of Sprinkles Cupcakes if you’re interested in the baking world at all. Sprinkles is considered to be the world’s first cupcake bakery, and it was quite a sensation when it came out in 2005.

It’s still a popular spot and one of Georgetown’s most popular bakeries!

They have a tasty selection of fresh cupcakes, brownies and cookies to choose from, but the cupcakes are what they’re most well-known for. They’re super-tasty, and the decorative frosting is adorable!

The interior is also pretty cute, with pink and white walls, bench seating, and fancy wooden tables. It’s a great spot to chill while you enjoy your treat.

I recommend stopping by earlier in the day to make sure none of your favorite cupcake flavors are sold ou,t as they’re made fresh every morning.

Olivia Macaron

Address: 3270 M St NW, Washington, DC 20007

There are few things I enjoy more than a well-made macaron, so of course, Olivia Macaron is on my list! This was my second time visiting this location, and I can only hope I’ll be back again soon.

They have an impressive selection of fresh macarons with flavors that are sure to appeal to any palate. Some of the more unique ones include churros, honey lavender, rose, cherry blossom, and galaxy cassis. I have yet to try one I didn’t like!

The bakery is small but chic inside, with a colorful macaron display and bright macaron art on the wall. You’ll find it on M St NW near the canal–it makes a great stop on your way to do the canal walk!

Bonus Stop: Brunch in DC

Bistro Cacao

Address: 316 Massachusetts Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002

French-style decor in Bistro Cacao

Okay, okay, so this spot is not in Georgetown. BUT if you’re in the area, it’s totally worth the trip to DC for their 3-course brunch!

Bistro Cacao is a hidden gem tucked away on Massachusets Avenue, just a little way down from Stanton Park. From the outside, it’s rather unassuming, aside from the elevated outdoor seating. It’s located inside one of the many row homes on the street, but the restaurant takes full use of the yard.

Inside, however, it’s like taking a step into a Parisian restaurant! The walls are covered in fancy brocade wallpaper, with an assortment of French posters and paintings placed here and there. Upstairs, red beaded chandeliers grace the ceiling while deep red curtains frame the windows and transform the wall seating into small, booth-like areas.

But of course, the food is the main attraction here! Bistro Cacao has an extensive 3-course brunch menu that includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert. You can choose from sweet or savory options, and the portions are fantastic. I couldn’t actually finish all of mine!

Bistro Cacao’s Brunch Menu 2022

I went with the French onion soup, frittata Loraine, and Crepes Sarrasin. My friend opted for the yogurt parfait, Oeufs Norwegian, and trio creme brulee. We both enjoyed everything on our plates and walked away full enough to make it to a late dinner with no problem.

Everything is at a fixed price of $35 per person, so you can splurge on anything from that menu for one price!

Closing Thoughts on these Georgetown Eateries

We had such a great time at each of these restaurants, and I would definitely return to any of them if given the chance! Some of them were a tad busy, but I never felt like we waited an undue amount of time for any of our food, even during rush hours. We did splurge a bit at a couple of these, but I always felt like I got my money’s worth on flavor and portions, so I can’t complain!
