10 of the Most Romantic Couples’ Getaways the U.S has to Offer

dirt road lined by oak trees

Hello, my fellow travelers and romantics! With Valentine’s Day just over a week away, I thought it was the perfect time to highlight some of America’s most romantic getaway spots. Because what better time to plan the perfect romantic vacation than on the official holiday of love? So, I’ve done my research and compiled 10 of the most enchanting, romantic, and date-worthy couples’ getaways the U.S. has to offer and listed them all here for you!

Now, one more thing before we dive in. I realize that a romantic date often comes with the misconception that it has to have a giant price tag attached. But let’s be real: it’s not practical for most of us to go financially crazy on the first romantic holiday of the year (or any romantic holiday for that matter).

So, with each destination, I’ve included a suggestion for remarkable and unique accommodations with a price tag of less than $200 per night (many of them are much lower than that). I tried to find hotels with out-of-the-ordinary themes or decor that would really heighten your overall experience without breaking the bank. In fact, I curated my list based on whether or not affordable accommodations were available (Aspen, CO, and Palm Beach, FL, were sadly nixed).

However, if you like the idea of an area but not the price of that particular hotel, try jumping on Trip Advisor or Airbnb and searching for other accommodations there. You’ll likely find something less expensive, if not quite as unique.

Alright, let’s get started!

1. Sedona, Arizona

If you like the warm weather and western-feels, consider a couples’ getaway to Sedona, Arizona, home to some of the world’s most beautiful rock formations. Spend your trip hiking in the great outdoors through stunning canyons and up to sweeping mesas. Or relax with a drive through the Red Rock Scenic Byway, taking in the beauty from the comfort of your car. Be sure to plan a romantic picnic at the Crescent Moon Picnic Site, where you can gaze up at the splendor of Cathedral Rock while you eat. Get even more ideas from Trip Advisor’s extensive list of romantic excursions!

Where to stay: My recommendation for a hotel is the Arabella Hotel Sedona. This perfectly located hotel sits right at the base of the Red Rock monoliths, providing gorgeous views from every angle. Enjoy your evening from a private balcony, by the pool, or around an intimate fire on the deck. The rooms feature a classic south-western style with plenty of room, lots of amenities, and perfect views.

Whatever you do, New Orleans’ beautiful locale will provide a sweet retreat for your romantic getaway. While you’re there, why not try out a foodie tour like this one from Kayla Sanders and get in on the best delicacies New Orleans has to offer?

Where to stay: Check out Hotel St. Pierre, an authentic French Quarter hotel on the National Register of Historic Places. You’ll enjoy the charming 18th-century architecture, the French Quarter district right outside your door, and a delightful free breakfast!

If you prefer your couples’ getaways to be more relaxed, consider the quiet New England setting of Providence, Rhode Island. You can check out the Roger Williams Park Zoo or Botanical Garden, catch a show at the Providence Performing Arts Center, and visit the Waterplace Park for dinner and a romantic stroll. If you have time, you won’t want to miss the chance to visit Newport as well and enjoy the stunning cliffs along the beach!

Where to stay: You’ll love the luxury of the Graduate Providence, a newly renovated 1920’s hotel in downtown Providence. 5. Savannah, GA

For another relaxing Southern option, consider Savannah, GA, the epitome of Southern charm. From cobblestone streets to moss-draped oaks, Savannah is like a step back into another century. The quiet atmosphere and romantic scenery make it absolutely perfect for a couple who likes history and beauty. As a bonus, Savannah is incredibly affordable to explore! Visit house museums, explore the riverfront district, or marvel at the artistic grave markers in Bonaventure Cemetery. Check out my guide to exploring Savannah for $10 or check out this list of romantic things to do in Savannah by BedandBreakfast.com.

Where to stay: Stay right by all the action in the River Street Inn on the riverfront. 6. Albuquerque, NM

Albuquerque is positively bursting with fun date possibilities for couples of all interests. Take a light hike through the Cibola National Forest or up into the Sandia Mountains on the La Luz Trail. If you want a relaxing and observe from above, the Sandia Peak Tramway offers an excellent view as it takes visitors nearly 3 miles up into the mountains. Or dive into the area’s culture with a visit to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, the Petroglyph National Monument, or the Albuquerque Museum. And of course, no visit is complete without a stop at the Turquoise Museum and ABQ BioPark! See TrSee Trip Advisor and Travelocity for more wonderful date suggestions!

Where to stay: I ran into a small problem when choosing a hotel for Albuquerque: I couldn’t decide! The city has several amazing accommodation choices, and most of them were shockingly affordable! So I narrowed it down to two of my favorites:

Hotel Chaco, a fairly new luxury hotel in Old Town Albuquerque, offers sumptuous suites with styles inspired by the Chaco Canyon–which is very fitting since you can see the rugged mountains in the distance from the roof and many upper-level rooms. Spend some time relaxing at the pool or doing a couple’s workout in the fully equipped workout center before relaxing with a romantic rooftop dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. My second choice is the Downtown Historic Bed and Breakfasts. If you’d like to ditch the hotel atmosphere for a lush and cozy BnB, this is the place to do it! With 5/5 stars on Trip Advisor, your choices don’t get much better than this! The Downtown Historic Bed and Breakfasts are comprised of two restored homes decorated with lavish Victorian-style furnishings and absolutely dripping charm. The backyard offers plenty of shaded seating under umbrella tables and light-strewn awnings. And with massages, free breakfast, and a gift shop available, a romantic trip is guaranteed. You may be surprised to see San Francisco on this list, but it has a remarkable amount of appeal and variety available for couples. You can take a romantic pedal-boat ride around Stow Lake, stroll through the Shakespeare Garden, or explore Golden Gate Park by bike! Mix it up with a stop at the Exploratorium, an interactive museum for adults, and finish your day by enjoying the Bay Lights or taking a sunset boat ride. Where to stay: Enjoy lovely city views and vibrant-colored rooms at Hotel Carlton, a Joie de Vivre hotel. Plus, they have live entertainment every night, so you can feel good about staying in.

Get caught up in the sand and sun over in Honolulu, Hawaii! You can take the classic relaxation trip on the beach, or you can explore the island with a hike to the Diamond Head State Monument or up Nu’uanu Pali where you’ll get breathtaking views. Snorkel in the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve or take it a step further and sign up for a dolphin swim from Dolphins and You! And of course, you won’t want to miss out on a tour of the Iolani Palace to learn more about the royal family. Whatever your preference, you can do just about all of it hand-in-hand in Honolulu! Check out this truly gigantic list of romantic things to do from Trip Advisor for more possibilities!

Where to stay: I was enchanted with the Equus, a boutique hotel in Waikiki, which is a surprisingly affordable option in this vacation hotspot. The hotel has an equestrian theme shown throughout with “Ralph-Lauren inspired touches,” and the location is conveniently located by shopping, dining, and the beach. Best of all, you’ll rest peacefully on their pillowtop beds as you look out on either a city or landmark view while you drift off. Ahhh…

9. Fort Lauderdale, FL

If Honolulu is a little out of reach, consider soaking up the sun in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, instead. Once again, this destination has something for just about everyone with options for hands-on activities and relaxation. Animal lovers will enjoy a trip to the Flamingo Gardens or a cruise on the Jungle Queen Riverboat Tours. Take a romantic and fun-filled walk on Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, one of America’s best boardwalks, for shopping and dining. And be sure to carve out some quality time at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park to enjoy the beach, fishing, canoes, and a walk through the beautiful nature trail.

Where to stay: I love the feel of Tranquilo, a small boutique hotel located 3 minutes from the beach. The rooms are bright and airy in that classic Florida style, and the hotel offers yoga classes, bike rentals, and heated pools. Here, you and your sweetheart can enjoy the convenient location and resort-style lodging without the resort fees.

10. Charleston, SC

Charleston, South Carolina, is the last destination on my list here, but it should be noted that it’s the #1 romantic hotspot on almost every list of couples destinations in America! So I saved the best for last, obviously. Like Savannah and New Orleans, Charleston has a certain southern charm that’s simply captivating; yet it seems to possess something a bit extra that keeps romantics coming back year after year.

Enjoy the intimate setting of a picnic under the iconic Angel Oak Tree or stroll the gardens of Middleton Place where the style mimics those of Versailles. Walk along the Battery to enjoy the sea view, then cut over a few streets to take in the also-iconic Rainbow Row. Tour art galleries, sign up for watersports or a sunset cruise, or take a carriage ride for two. Whatever your quaint fancy, Charleston, South Carolina has something you’ll both love!

Where to stay: You’ll find lush, modern style at the Cambria Hotel Charleston Riverview. Located right on the riverfront, you’ll be just minutes away from the historic downtown area. The rooms are bright and spacious with decor that reflects on the tropical atmosphere. Enjoy a cozy dinner for two in the hotel’s lounge, and don’t miss the chance to unwind in one of the many relaxing seating areas around the pool and fireplace. It’s perfect for a couple needing a quiet, beachside getaway.
