Soar Above the Rainforest at Toro Verde Adventure Park

Toro Verde Adventure Park

If there’s one thing I learned in Puerto Rico, it’s that this small island has big adventures around every corner. From bioluminescent bays to premium snorkeling spots and rainforest treks, there’s no reason to be bored here. But if you happen to be looking for something to really get your adrenaline pumping, you have to check out Toro Verde Adventure Park!

Located up in the mountains of Orocovis, this incredible park is only about an hour away from San Juan, and well worth every second you spend getting there. Not only is it the largest adventure park in the Caribbean and the Americas, but it’s also home to the world’s longest bicycle zip wire and the longest zip line in the United States and its territories. That’s pretty impressive!

The Toro Bikes and Toro Roller

We had the opportunity to spend a whole day exploring this awesome adventure park, taking on several of its incredible zip lines and exploring the property, and I have to say, the experience blew me away! From flying through the air superman style at 95 miles per hour to braving their ziplines during a tropical rainstorm, there certainly wasn’t a dull moment!

Today I want to share more about Toro Verde with you, from the different experiences to pricing and even some insider tips, so you can decide if it’s a good fit for you!

I also want to give a big shout-out to Abnier and Alvin on staff, who took the time to show us around the park and gave us some great insights into what makes Toro Verde such a special place to visit! They were so friendly and really helped our experience at Toro Verde stand out!

About Toro Verde Adventure Park

Toro Verde is located in Orocovis, which is right in the heart of Puerto Rico’s lush, central mountains. Getting here is a bit of an adventure on its own as you take on tight, winding mountain roads, but the journey is beautiful. You can rent a car to get here on your own, or book any number of tours from Viator or Get Your Guide with transportation and tickets for specific combo tours. But for the most flexibility, I definitely recommend driving yourself so you can stay all day and do as much as you want.

The park has six main attractions to check out: El Monstruo, La Bestia, the Ziplines, the Toro Roller, the Toro Bikes, and the climbing towers. Each attraction is fun, unique, and guaranteed to provide an adrenaline rush for thrill-seekers of all ages!

If you’re looking for something a bit calmer or just want to see Toro Verde from a different point of view, you can also book a Toro Trail tour, which involves exploring the grounds in a golf cart caravan. The property is incredibly gorgeous, so I recommend adding this on if you have time.

Tips for Planning Your Visit to Toro Verde

This isn’t your typical amusement park visit—it’s an adventure park! So, make sure you’re ready to make the most of your day with these tips.

Insider Info from Abnier

We had the opportunity to chat with Abnier, who’s worked at Toro Verde for five years, to get a glimpse behind the scenes of the park and get some insider tips!

  • About 300-400 people visit the park each day during the low season, while during the high season (June- July, November- January), as many as a thousand people come through each day, with a mix of both locals and tourists.
  • The best time of day to visit is right when the park opens at 8 a.m. to maximize your time and do as much as possible before the sun gets too hot.
  • The same company that built El Monstruo (the former Guinness World Record holder for longest zipline) also built the new record-breaking zipline in Dubai!
  • The most popular attraction in the park is El Monstruo.
  • The park’s owner (Don Jorge, I believe) has built several incredible parks across Puerto Rico and Costa Rica! This one, in particular, was built near the Toro Negro reserve and named Toro Verde as a nod to that beautiful area.

What to Wear and Bring to Toro Verde

DCIM\101GOPRO\GOPR2747.JPG
  • Quick-dry athletic clothes that you’ll be comfortable wearing under a harness and while you walk
  • Close-toed shoes (required) with a good tread for navigating dirt trails
  • Hair tie to keep long hair contained on the ziplines
  • Plenty of sunscreen
  • A change of clothes and a towel in case it rains
  • Go-Pro with a clip to slide into helmets
  • A rain jacket in case of storms and/or a light jacket for cooler mountain weather

Choosing Your Adventure Package

Toro Verde has an extensive list of activity options, ranging from single rides to combos. Single attractions range from $10 to $105, depending on what you want to do, but most of their combo packages are in the $100 range, which I think is the way to go. They also have great deals for couples and families that include restaurant credits, so you’ll definitely want to take a look at those, too.

If you want to ride El Monstruo, I recommend booking it in a combo because single tickets cost over $100, but several combo options are available for just $99. I’m not sure why they give such a big discount, but it’s a good reason to do more than one thing!

Keep in mind that you’ll want to reserve your activities in advance for busy seasons, since you’ll be competing with about 1000 other people for time slots. This especially applies to El Monstruo.

What We Tried at Toro Verde (And What You Shouldn’t Miss!)

We had high hopes of trying everything at Toro Verde so I could give you a full review of the park. However, due to a sudden rainstorm, we were only able to do the park’s most popular activities. That just gives me a great reason to return to Toro Verde in the future to try the rest of their incredible attractions.

El Monstruo

We started off the day strong with a ride along El Monstruo, a former Guinness World Record holder for the world’s longest zipline! It’s still the longest zipline in the U.S. and its territories at 1.57 miles long, and with speeds up to 95 miles per hour, it’s guaranteed to take your breath away.

This zipline takes off from a tower right by the main Toro Verde building and gives you incredible views across the mountains and valleys. But the best part is that you take on this monster Superman-style in a special zipline sling that lets you soar through the sky on your stomach, so you have no problem taking in the panoramic vistas.

  • Toro Verde Bull and El Monstruo

If you only do one thing in the park, this is the one I recommend you do! However, this is max thrill level, so it’s not for the faint of heart.

La Bestia

The second-biggest thrill in the park is La Bestia, another epic zipline that you’ll enjoy Superman-style. It’s not quite a mile long and “only” gets up to 60 miles per hour, but it’s still a fantastic ride! I particularly loved the starting view from La Bestia as well, and the views just get better as you go.

If you still want a decent thrill but aren’t quite ready to take on El Monstruo, this is a great alternative that will still leave you with a nice adrenaline rush.

7-Zipline Tour

The last attraction we were able to check out was the 7-zipline tour. This 2.5-hour guided tour takes groups of approximately 10 people across the park with a series of zipline platforms and gorgeous hikes that offer gorgeous views of Toro Verde at every turn.

Beautiful zipline views!

These ziplines are much shorter and lower than El Monstruo, but they’re still pretty extensive, with an average of 30 seconds or more per line. This whole tour is done in the “traditional” zipline style, with a harness you’ll sit in as you zip across the tree tops. They’re also slower than the first two, giving you a better chance to take in the scenery, looking for tropical birds and flowers. If you haven’t done ziplining before, this is a fantastic intro option.

Our tour took a dramatic turn when a tropical storm rolled in for the last hour. There wasn’t any lightning or thunder, and there was no other way to get back to the main building aside from a long trek, so our guides kept us moving from platform to platform through the storm. It was cold and wet, but also incredibly exciting. And since this is a tropical rainforest, it seemed fitting that we get the whole, authentic experience.

But knowing what I do now, I recommend you bring a rain jacket with you if there’s any chance of rain on the day you visit. Our guides all had them in their backpacks, and I wished I’d thought to take ours out of the car before we started the tour.

Other Cool Attractions We Didn’t Try (But Wish We Had!)

This hub has three different attractions.

As mentioned, Toro Verde Adventure Park has several other unique attractions that you should check out if you have the time.

Torobikes

The Main Toro Bike Platform

The #1 thing I wish I’d been able to try was the Toro Bikes! This attraction holds the Guinness World Record for the longest bicycle zip wire! The Toro Bikes have two side-by-side tracks connected to two towers, spanning over 1000 feet! This epic bike ride will take you over the tree tops, giving you incredible rainforest views below! You’re still strapped in for safety, like you would be on a zipline, so this is a great one for the whole family.

Toro Roller

The Toro Roller is also a super-unique option that offers more controlled thrills for all ages. This 60-foot-tall zipline roller coaster takes you on a series of twists and turns as you zip along the track in a special zipline harness attached to a handlebar that slides along the track. Your feet dangle free, allowing you to really sway and fly with the turns.

It’s the largest cable coaster of its kind in the world, so definitely check this one out!

Climbing Towers

Last but not least, Toro Verde has seven different climbing walls to check out! Each one is different and offers a different challenge, like a giant beanstalk, a tire wall, a faux building exterior, and a traditional rock-climbing style. Each participant will get safely strapped in, so kids and adults alike can climb in confidence. It’s a great place to chase some more active thrills.

Food, Coffee, and Shopping at Toro Verde Adventure Park

Of course, a trip to Toro Verde wouldn’t be complete without browsing around their main building, where you’ll find a cozy cafe, a restaurant with panoramic views, and an extensive gift shop!

El Café del Toro

For a quick snack, dessert, or coffee, be sure to swing by Toro Verde’s cafe, located on the first floor of the main building. They offer sandwiches, burgers, and quesadillas for main fair, plus a few a la carte options. The service is quick, and you’ll have the option to sit inside or out on the patio, where you can enjoy the view. It’s a great option if you want something small between tours–or in our case, to warm up after the rain!

La Terraza del Toro

The second floor of the main building is where you’ll find La Terraza, Toro Verde’s main restaurant. The sprawling dining terrace provides you panoramic views of the grounds and surrounding mountains while you enjoy your meal! The food is delicious, and a lot of it is actually grown right on the grounds! The menu is really elevated, with a wonderful selection of seafood, chicken, and, of course, steak. We ended up trying the risotto, and it was a big hit for both of us! It came with fried plantains, which were also top notch.

Gift Shop

Before you head home, make sure you browse through Toro Verde’s expansive gift shop, which has all sorts of cool branched merch to remember your day by! There’s also a photo op wall for anyone who took on El Monstruo, and you can also purchase digital photos from your different activities at the desk!

Final Thoughts: Why Toro Verde is Worth the Trip

Our day at Toro Verde was one of our favorite parts of our entire week in Puerto Rico! From the incredible views to the unforgettable thrills, it was just an all-around amazing experience. We particularly loved the chance to soar above the rainforest on El Monstruo and La Bestia, which were by far the best ziplines we’ve ever been on.

Overall, I think Toro Verde is a fantastic place for couples, friend groups, and families of all ages who want to add some extra thrills to their vacation. There are great options for everyone, and the views from up here are absolutely unmissable! The prices can add up, but I also feel like they have enough package options to make it affordable for individuals and groups if you snag a combo.

If you’re heading to Puerto Rico, be sure to add Toro Verde Adventure Park to your list–and don’t forget to reserve your tickets early to make sure you can try everything you want!
